Nahal Haredi, also known as “Netzah Yehuda”, was established in 1999 by the IDF in conjunction with a group of dedicated rabbis and the Ministry of Defense. The goal was – and still is – to allow Haredi men to serve in the IDF while maintaining and safeguarding their lifestyle. The Battalion specializes in all types of combat, with emphasis on urban warfare, and is under the command of the Menashe Brigade.
Service in Nahal Haredi consists of two years as a combat soldier plus an additional year dedicated to the completion of a matriculation certificate or vocational skill.
Our dream is to build The Center for Haredi Soldiers and Veterans of the IDF. This center will contain, under one roof, all the physical and spiritual needs of the Netzah Yehuda soldiers and veterans. The Center will assist Haredi soldiers in finding suitable academic studies, finding jobs, and settling into civilian life. It will also be a single, warm, and supportive address for any needs during their army service including a special department for lone soldiers whose families are abroad.
